Summary

The philosophy of Assisted Living is one of person-centered care, individualizing and maximizing independence, choice, privacy, and dignity. It is expected that assisted living residents be encouraged and allowed to maintain as much independence as possible, including the right to retain control of their medications. However, do the rules and regulations in Assisted Living permit that? This session will discuss when residents can and cannot self-administer medications and what requirements must be in place for training, documentation, assessment, monitoring, packaging of medications, storage, and disposal.
