Summary

No matter what state a provider is located in there are regulations and guidelines on how patient liability monies are to be billed, prorated, collected, applied, and refunded. It is vital that the provider’s business office follows regulations and guidelines to ensure compliance and avoid costly penalties, settlements, and legal ramifications.

The purpose of this session is to provide participants with the knowledge to properly handle patient liability monies from Medicaid recipients. We discuss compliance in bookkeeping and provide tips on applying monies received from or on behalf of Medicaid recipients, as well as the proper handling of credit balances.
