Compassion fatigue, burnout and vicarious trauma are critical challenges in our fields right now. Understanding ‘multiple empathies’, using compassion strategies with self and others, and practicing consistent self-care combat emotional damage in helping professionals. We will focus on immediate and long-term strategies for effective self-care at work and at home. We will shift from using emotional empathy to compassionate empathy. We will learn a breathing technique and a compassion-focused mindful awareness exercise. Outside of the training, participants will be able to take a self-assessment of their personal and professional risk factors for burnout and empathetic injury.

  • Participants will be able to identify features of burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma.
  • Participants will practice strategies for stress reduction at work and in other areas of their life.
