Summary

The long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are not limited solely to infection prevention. The pandemic forced LTPAC facilities very quickly to learn the vast effect one virus can have on residents, families, staff, and the overall facility operations. We have now had the time to reflect on some of the most difficult lessons we have learned and extrapolated those lessons into plans for future disasters and/or emergencies. In this session, we will discuss the importance of positioning yourself as a leader in the SNF market by providing premier infection control treatment and prevention, and maintaining the highest quality of care for your residents, especially during an emergency. You will learn about the importance of investing in ongoing infection control training for your staff members and the value of having a dedicated Infection Preventionist on staff. We will review how you can prepare your facility budget for the increased need of PPE, through expense analysis, projections, and incorporating additional general ledger account structure for PPE expenses. Lastly, 2020 catapulted telehealth services to the forefront of long-term care and we will discuss how to continue to incorporate telehealth and other electronic technology options into daily resident clinical and psycho-social care.
